ABOUT LogicForKidz
At LogicForKidz, our mission is to teach computer science to every kid.
LogicForKidz is founded by a group of people who are passionate about teaching computer science to kids. We all were introduced to computers either in middle or high school back in the late 1980s or early 1990s when personal computers were just starting to become popular. Fast forward 30 years, now kids are introduced to computers at a very early age, even use it on a daily basis but they are missing the foundational concepts like what is a computer? How does the internet work?
At LogicForKidz, we believe computer science should be part of the core curriculum in school every year just like maths and reading. Some of us, who realize that kids should be introduced to computers, go for short coding courses. But computer science is so much more than just coding. Concepts like logic, problem solving, information theory, complex systems, artificial intelligence and machine learning shape new ways of thinking. Short coding courses teach kids how to use the various programming tools but not how to solve the real world problems. For instance, coding courses teach them how to code in python but not necessarily how to organize information if they were trying to build a search index for the local library. Hence at LogicForKidz, we have a progressive curriculum for kids in K-8th grade focusing on computer science and logical thinking using various online and offline tools.
We also believe having strong foundational skills ourselves is very important to be able to teach so that we are able to answer each and every question these curious minds have in a fun way while still further challenging their thinking. And that is the reason we select each member of our team with utmost care. Our team is made of software professionals who have computer science degrees from reputed institutes, 20+ years of experience in the software industry with companies like Amazon, Paypal and Cisco. They have been working with kids for multiple years and are able to connect and teach kids at their level.
Even though most kids are using computers on a daily basis, they are still unaware of the science of how they work. Computer science is a fundamental discipline like any other discipline, be it physics, chemistry, biology or humanities. If we focus on this broader goal, we can use coding as a tool to teach children logical thinking, problem solving, analytical thinking, abstractions, modelling and designing. It’s an essential approach to help kids succeed in their future.
